We arrived in the mid-afternoon, and did a walk around part of the lake to see the smelly sulpher-smelling mud pools up close. We also saw some unique birds, including black swans. The entire area smells like sulpher (the strength of the smell seems to depend on the wind and how close you are to the lake)...but as a local mentioned, at least the smell isn't man made :-)

Day 44: Smelly Rotorua
